WHOOPS!!! Don't show anyone from the development team!
Hey, these pics go against everything we have been told by the development team...absolutely NO exercausers! I guess they are even worse, they are technically walkers...but there was no walking involved at all. We wanted to see what S and E would do in terms of their fine motor skills...i.e. reaching for the toys. They were in them all of 10 minutes...here are some cute photos of the first and probably very few times they will get to try them out.
They are so beautiful Steph and are doing SO well!!!!!! About the exersaucer- I have been told as well not to use the exersaucer by EI (especially for Tony, since he is not crawling yet), but occasionally, if I have to make dinner or use the bathroom, whoops, there he goes. However, Serena and Edwin are doing wonderfully and look like they're having a blast!!!! Randi
I wouldn't worry about the exersaucer, Stephanie. Hallie spent a little time in them before she started to crawl, and actually enjoys them a lot more now than she did a few months ago (and it is a great device for when I need to shower, fold laundry, etc).
Unrelated: Edwin jr. looks SO MUCH like Edwin Sr. I am amazed at the resemblance. And both of the kids are TOTALLY gorgeous.
Abby, Thanks for the advice. Do you really think they look alike? We get so many differing opinions on who looks like who. FYI for everyone, Serena is wearing her nasal cannula in these pics (see previous post). I just didn't want anyone to get thrown off and think there were all pics of Edwin Jr. First 3 are Champ and the last 3 are Beana girl. :)
I think they look like each other.. (the babies) with a lot of daddy and a bit of mommy slashed in there) They are so cute!!!
As for the exersaucer, well we don't have one, but I have a jumper that AIDEN LOVES!! EI never told me not to use it, but to not leave him in it all day, which I would never do anyway. Who would want to bounce all day long. And as others said it's great for when you have to do laundry or cook.. He goes in it in the morning to watch elmo then here and there through out the day. I think it's actually helped him with his legs and building strength. He is now starting to crawl and so badly wants to walk..
Exersaucers are not all bad. Regular use kept Noah's food in his tummy when he got to wiggly to stay upright on my shoulder after a meal. He did crawl late (1 year corrected), but our OT assured us that this was due to low shoulder tone making is difficult for him to push up on his arms, not leg problems from the exersaucer.
Don't worry about the exersaucer - we put Arianna in hers while we get ready in the morning. To make it even worse we put her in it and then in front of a baby einstein video! The horror! :D
Steph, I adore the pic of Serena with the keys in her mouth. They are both beautiful babies!
Yeah, the exersaucer. Our PT hates all the "devices" made for Mom's convenience. Especially bouncy chairs and exersaucers. I used both with Margaret... sometimes you just have to do what you can to take a shower!
And I plan to put William in one as soon as I get home so he can practice his head control. (I probably won't let his feet touch the bottom, though).
God,
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Our story
After 5 months of a healthy pregnancy with spontaneous twins, we found out at 23 weeks and 2 days gestation something was terribly wrong. For reasons still unknown, I was in preterm labor, 3 cms dilated and my membranes with baby A were funneling out of my cervix. I lasted only 3 days on bedrest with meds in the hospital, and on September 29, 2006, Serena and Edwin, Jr were born at only 23 weeks 5 days gestation. They weighed 1lb 3oz and were 12" long. They were in the NICU for 122 days and we encountered some of the most frightening times of our lives. We nearly lost Edwin many times, and it is truly a miracle that both survived. Serena and Edwin, Jr are amazing and show us every day just how precious life is and how amazing it can be. We are humbled by the support and love we have found since entering this world of prematurity. Currently, our preemie "struggles" involve Edwin's hypotonic cerebral palsy and need for a reverse walker and AFOs, Serena's paralyzed vocal cord, and their continued oxygen needs while sick. We are passionate about issues related to prematurity and about sharing the very special lives of two amazing children.
I am first and foremost a mom, who works with "at-risk" youth in after-school settings. I am currently pursuing a masters in school counseling. Edwin, Sr is a professional boxer with a record of 10-0 with 7KOs. My email address is rapa.stephanie@gmail.com
